Natura Solutions Returns as Presenting Sponsor for the 31st season of the Vancouver Open

Vancouver, BC - June 6, 2024 - Volleyball BC is thrilled to announce the continued collaboration with Natura Solutions as the presenting sponsor for the 31st edition of the Vancouver Open.

The 31st Vancouver Open returns to the scenic backdrop of Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver, BC, the renowned beach volleyball tournament is scheduled to unfold from July 12-14, 2024.

Known for its lively ambiance, big crowds, and stellar beach volleyball talent, the Vancouver Open draws top players from Canada, the United States, South America, and beyond with an established status as a premier destination for beach volleyball fans. With Natura Solutions generously contributing CAD 40,000 to this year's prize pool, the competition promises excitement and intensity.

Volleyball BC is excited to bring back The Vancouver Open for the 31st time!

The Vancouver Open is the marquee event of The Beach Tour. The 31st edition of the annual three-day event will feature the best beach volleyball players from Canada, North America and worldwide.

The top 24 teams per gender qualify for the Main Draw, while the remaining eight open slots are determined by a qualifier tournament held on Friday prior.

Youth can also play at The Vancouver Open, thanks to our 14U and 16U beach tournaments with a similar playing format. More information about this tournament below.

Player Information

The top 24 teams per gender qualify for the Main Draw by FIVB results, VBC points and Wildcard selections. For the remaining eight open slots per gender, a qualifier is held on the Friday of the event weekend.

The 14U and 16U youth divisions run using a very similar format—see the Youth Open below for more details.

  • Grand Prize Purse: 40,000 CAD

    Prizing Breakdown:(per gender)

    First Place: 10,000 CAD

    Second Place: 5,000 CAD

    Third Place: 2,000 CAD

    Fourth Place: 1,000 CAD

    T-5th: 250 CAD x 4

    T-9th: 125 CAD x 8

  • The number of teams in the Main Draw are 32 Men’s teams and 32 Women’s teams. If 32 teams or less register, then all teams will be placed directly into the Main Draw.

    Qualifying Tournament:

    A qualifying tournament will be held if more than 32 teams register for the tournament. The qualifying tournament format is pool play followed by a single-elimination playoff bracket, to determine the top eight teams who gain entry into the Main Draw tournament.

    Main Draw Tournament:

    This will be a 32-team modified pool play format with a single elimination bracket. Main draw berths will be based on points from 2022 and 2023 Volleyball BC events. Final seeding will be completed by the Volleyball BC Players Committee.

    Available Berths:

    Top four (4) teams from 2023 Vancouver Open* [If teams split up, they will need to qualify by another process]

    Two (2) FIVB teams* [with minimum 50 points]

    Two (2) USA teams* [determined by Volleyball BC, not points]

    One (1) 2023 Adult Beach Provincial Champions [If teams split up, they will need to qualify by another process]

    10 VBC teams [based on 2023 & 2024 participation points]

    Five (5) Wildcard Berths [Volleyball BC’s discretion]

    Eight (8) Qualifier Berths [Top 8 teams based on results of the qualifying tournament]

    *NOTE: Berths designated for specific categories that have not been used will be transferred to discretionary wildcard berths

    ‍The list of teams participating in each tournament will be posted online. No draws will be available until the Players' Meetings (July 12).

    Friday early morning. Details will be released in the tournament informal email.

    Main Draw Players' Meeting:

    The meeting will happen virtually. Details will be released in the tournament informal email.

  • The competition venue will consist of 9 competition and 2 warm-up courts.

    Parking at Kitsilano Beach is available in marked/pay lots. Free parking on the local streets is limited; vehicles are monitored, ticketed and sometimes towed. No parking passes are available.

Youth players under the age of 16 can compete and get a taste of the big-time action at Kits Beach! The Youth Open is a one-day tournament that will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14.

The Youth Open Qualifier for the tournament will take place two days prior on Friday, July 12 (times TBA)

14U Girls: 16 teams (Top 12 teams + 4 from the Qualifier)
14U Boys: 8 teams (Top 6 teams + 2 from the Qualifier)
16U Girls: 16 teams (Top 12 teams + 4 from the Qualifier)
